Delaying dermatological procedural interventions in the context of isotretinoin use: is there a shift in the consensus? | Clinical & Experimental Dermatology
January, 2022
Isotretinoin is the most effective treatment in severe, refractory acne vulgaris. Historically, dermatological procedures have been avoided for 6–12 months following isotretinoin, owing to concerns surrounding delayed wound healing and scarring. However, a recent systematic review by Spring et al. questions this paradigm. The review evaluated literature surrounding the safety of procedural interventions performed concurrently or immediately following cessation of isotretinoin therapy.
